Prof. Brenna Argall participated in a panel discussion hosted by the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, titled, "The Robot Revolution" on Monday, November 16.
Prof. Argall was joined by Henrik Christensen, KUKA Chair of Robotics, Georgia Tech Institute of Technology and Robin Murphy, Raytheon Professor of Computer Science and Engineering, Texas A&M University. The talk was moderated by Kurt Haunfelner, Vice President, Exhibits and Collections, the Museum of Science and Industry.
Talk Abstract: Machines are on the move. Once confined to science fiction or simple industrial tasks, robots today are performing functions as diverse and sophisticated as surgery, disaster response, and fighting wars. And as the field of robotics merges with advanced computing technology and artificial intelligence, robots are set to have an impact on the world around us that could scarcely have been imagined a decade ago. How have researchers pushed the boundaries of this field of technology in recent years, and what developments lay on the horizon? Should we view the rise of the robots as a threat, or are they tools to empower human endeavor?
