NU Hosts Fourth Annual Conference on Advances in Cognitive Systems; Forbus & Hinrichs are Co-chairs
The summit brought together over 50 Artificial Intelligence researchers and students interested in building cognitive systems.
Recently, Northwestern University played host to the Fourth Annual Conference on Advances in Cognitive Systems, held June 23-26, 2016 in Evanston, IL. The event was Chaired by Prof. Ken Forbus and Prof. Tom Hinrichs of the Qualitative Reasoning Group.
The summit brought together over 50 Artificial Intelligence researchers and students interested in building cognitive systems that focus on high-level cognition and decision making, reliance on rich, structured representations, and incorporation of insights about human thinking. Some highlights of the conference included keynote speeches by Dr. Eric Horvitz (Microsoft Research) on human-machine symbiosis, Dr. Michael Witbrock (IBM T.J. Watson Research) on industrial-strength reasoning at scale, and Dr. Francesca Rossi (University of Padova) on representing moral preferences for AI systems.
