The Master of Biotechnology Program (MBP) also welcomed our 2022 Association of Biotechnology Students (ABS) executive board. Elected by our first year students, these students will continue an MBP tradition of organizing academic, social, community service, and professional development events and outings for all MBP students throughout the academic year.
Meet the 2023 ABS Executive Board
Hannah Cook
PresidentHannah completed her undergraduate education at West Virginia Wesleyan College earning a BA in Chemistry and BA in Secondary Mathematics Education. After graduation she decided to pursue an advanced degree to further her interest in drug development, which led her to Northwestern University's MBP program. Hannah chose Northwestern because of the program's focus on research and the flexibility it offered in course choices. Hannah was also drawn to Northwestern's MBP because of the ties it brings with the biotech industry and its opportunities for internship/co-op during the program. After graduating, Hannah wants to pursue a career in Pharmaceutical R&D, specifically drug development & delivery and/or cancer research.
Lydia Ng
Vice PresidentLydia pursued her undergraduate studies in University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, from which she earned her BS in Molecular and Cellular Biology. During her years there, she had participated in scientific research, management consulting, and communications work. This motivated her to seek educational opportunities that would give her a holistic understanding of the biotech industry, leading her to choose Northwestern University’s Masters of Biotechnology program. After graduating, Lydia hopes to pursue life sciences/biopharma consulting or equity research.

Community ChairAlexandra completed her undergraduate degree at Willamette University, earning a BA in biology. She then worked as a biotechnology lab technician, discovered all the applications that a career in biotechnology could offer, and decided to pursue an advanced degree. Alexandra chose Northwestern’s MS in Biotechnology program because of its dedicated research focus and the ability to take science, engineering, and business classes all as a part of the same degree. Upon graduating, Alexandra plans to pursue opportunities in synthetic biology, bioinformatics, and entrepreneurship.
