MECH_ENG 495: Constitutive modeling of soft materials

VIEW ALL COURSE TIMES AND SESSIONS

Prerequisites

The course will be self-contained but will rely on continuum-based descriptions of the physical behavior of solids (CIV_ENV 417-1, or equivalent).

Description

Soft materials appear pervasively in Nature, in biological systems, or in engineering applications. They are usually characterized by their ability to undergo large deformations under external mechanical stimuli. This course will cover theoretical frameworks that describe and govern the response of this class of materials within the context of hyperelasticty, hyperviscoelasticity, and finite thermoelasticity.

There is no required textbook for this course. Lectures notes will be posted on the course Canvas website.
