MECH_ENG 395: Special Topics: Energy and Society


VIEW ALL COURSE TIMES AND SESSIONS

Prerequisites

A basic understanding of differntial equations and a familiarity with a programming language (such as MATLAB)

Description

This course explores the relationship between energy and the organization of society. We consider energy as it helps determine the geographic distribution, well-being, and social organization of mankind. Particular topics vary from year to year and will include the relationship of energy and: technological innovation, economic prosperity, migration, population distribution, warfare, and evolution.

Assessment

Grading will be based on two oral presentations (one descriptive and one based on the formulation of a simple mathematical model) and a written journal-style paper.
