During registration for the upcoming term, this page houses links to forms for requesting placement in closed sections of the Engineering Foundational Courses, Design Thinking & Communication (DTC), and PRDV 101 McCormick First-Year Experience (FYE). Other courses outside of these areas are managed through their respective departments.

Registration Tips
Registration Holds
Students should check their CAESAR account for registration holds well in advance of their registration appointment to avoid any delays once enrollment begins. Please keep in mind that there are many types of holds and the majority are not managed by the Undergraduate Engineering Office. You can view details on a hold, information on required steps for that hold to be lifted, and details on which department oversees that hold in CAESAR.

PRDV 101-1: Engineering First-Year Seminar
Listing in CAESAR: PRDV 101-1
This 0-credit course is required for all first-year McCormick students enrolling in Fall 2026.
Your Peer Advisor (PA) will let you know which section number to enroll in during registration and will provide you with your permission number. This course is by permission only and you cannot be locked out.
If you need to change sections of PRDV 101-1 due to conflicts or other issues, please submit your request in the form below. You must be signed into your NU email to access the form.
If you submit a request to change sections, the Undergraduate Engineering Office will work to ensure that you are enrolled in PRDV 101-1 by the first session meeting taking place in Week 2 of the quarter.
Design Thinking and Communication 1 (DTC)
Listing in CAESAR: DSGN 106-1 (.5 credit) AND ENGL 106-1 (.5 credit)
DTC has three components each time you enroll (listed below). Concurrent enrollment in all three is needed to avoid registration errors.
DTC-1 is offered Fall and Winter (DSGN/ENGL 106-1). Multiple sections are offered each term with more offerings in Winter. Seats in this course are reserved for current McCormick students. Students seeking to transfer into McCormick should plan to take DTC-1 after their application has been submitted.

Note: Not all students will take DTC in Fall. If you are not able to enroll in a section this Fall, you will enroll in the Winter.
Programming for Engineers
Listing in CAESAR: GEN_ENG 150
Select any open section you prefer, taking your other course meeting times into consideration. GEN_ENG 150 enrollment caps are set to ensure all students can take GEN_ENG 150 in fall quarter.
At your enrollment time, if you believe you have a special circumstance that necessitates enrolling in a currently closed section of GEN_ENG 150, please submit your request with the form below. You must be signed into your NU email to access the link.
We will accommodate requests where possible but must stay within the enrollment limits for each section and, unfortunately, cannot guarantee we will grant every request. Students who have submitted requests will be notified regarding whether a seat is available in the preferred section by the start of classes.
GEN_ENG 150 Enrollment Request Form
Programming for Engineers (Honors)
Listing in CAESAR: GEN_ENG 151
McCormick first-year students with a score of 4 or 5 on the AP CS A exam will receive a permission number for Gen Eng 151 as long as this score was included in the AP information you included in your MAS Dossier this summer. If you fall into this group, you will receive the permission number via email by 9am on Friday, September 18th. You may then use this permission number to enroll in the course during your regular registration appointment on Friday, September 18th.
Students that complete the Gen Eng 151 placement exam on Thursday, September 17th will learn their results and be sent a permission number, if applicable, directly from the Computer Science Department. CS will be working to get results out ahead of registration beginning at 9:30am on Friday, September 18th.

If you have not earned CS 1CA credit via AP or IB and did not complete the Sept 17th placement exam but would like to request a seat in this class, you can submit the form below. Please note, we cannot guarantee placement into the class. You should enroll in Gen Eng 150 (McCormick students) or CS 150 (non-McCormick students) and you will be notified if there is an opportunity to join Gen Eng 151.

Second-Year Registration
Engineering Analysis III Trailer (EA 3 Trailer)

This trailer is offered for McCormick students who still need to complete EA 3. The class does not require a permission number to enroll. Submit the form below if you have difficulty registering for the EA 3 trailer.
Engineering Analysis IV (EA 4)

At your enrollment time, if you believe you have a special circumstance that necessitates enrolling in a currently closed section of EA 4, please submit your request below.
We will accommodate requests where possible but must stay within the enrollment limits for each section and, unfortunately, cannot guarantee we will grant every request. Students who have submitted requests will be notified regarding whether a seat is available. We will begin processing waitlist requests on Tuesday, May 26th, but they can take a few weeks to fully work through. If you see a class open, please register for that class.
