Undergraduate Study
Student Groups

Student groups at McCormick provide an important opportunity for undergraduates to develop leadership skills and to network with faculty, staff, and professionals in the field. Northwestern Engineering administration strives to create a collaborative environment for our student organizations and places great value on the time and energy our student leaders spend building a strong sense of pride and community within our school.

Northwestern Engineering supports student organizations by:

  • Providing and designing office space
  • Providing funding through internal opportunities such as the McCormick Students Activities Grant and the Murphy Society Fund, and helping to facilitate external industry sponsorships
  • Assisting with member recruitment efforts by sponsoring the annual student activities fair, organizing welcome events and mentoring programs, assisting with advertising upcoming group events, and in supporting outreach efforts to diverse populations to encourage interest in studying engineering
  • Facilitating networking opportunities between student groups through regular meetings of student leaders, newsletters, and in one-off instances as we recognize opportunities for groups to connect and collaborate on events and activities
  • Fostering growth in key skills such as corporate engagement, marketing and promotion, finance, career development, and social justice action through inviting speakers from across campus to address students leaders at quarterly meetings and offering individualized coaching on topics such as executive board transitions, running effective meetings, and conflict resolution
  • Teaching our student group leaders the value of diverse thought and how incorporating unique perspectives can help organizations grow
