Aydin Publishes Article in Nature Photonics

Prof. Koray Aydin has written a recent News and Views Article for Nature Photonics, the highest impact journal in the area of Optics and Photonics.

Prof. Koray Aydin has written a recent News and Views Article for Nature Photonics, the highest impact journal in the area of Optics and Photonics. In the article, published Thursday, May 28, 2015 (Volume 9, Number 6), he describes two recently published articles in Nature Photonics on the inverse design of compact, high-efficiency, on-chip silicon optical components based on nanostructured silicon.

By controlling the refractive index locally at the subwavlength size scale researhers have demonstrated that it is indeed possible to design and realize on-chip silicon wavelength demultiplexers and polarization beam splitters. Prof. Aydin has also provided his comments and views on possible future applications and directions in this newly emerging field of aperiodic, complex nanostructures for controlling the flow of light at the subwavelength size scales.
