Degree Requirements
A minimum number of 48 courses is required to earn the bachelor of science in applied mathematics degree. Among them are:
Core Courses (32 courses)
- Mathematics (4 courses)
- Engineering analysis and computer proficiency (4 courses)
- Basic sciences (4 courses)
- Design and communications (3 courses)
- Basic engineering (5 courses)
- Social sciences/humanities (7 courses)
- Unrestricted electives (5 courses)
Required Courses (8 courses)
- ES APPM 311-0 - Methods of Applied Mathematics plus a 300 or 400 level elective
- ES APPM 312 Methods of Applied Mathematics: Complex Variables (offered spring quarter in odd-numbered years) or MATH 325 - Complex Variables for Applications
- ES_APPM 345 - Applied Linear Algebra (offered winter quarter in even-numbered years) or MATH 334 Linear Algebra: Second Course
- ES APPM 346 - Modeling and Computation in Science and Engineering (offered winter quarter in odd-numbered years)
- ES APPM 322 - Applied Dynamical Systems (offered spring quarter in even-numbered years)
- ES APPM 421-1 - Models in Applied Mathematics plus one approved modeling course
Additional Courses (2 courses)
- One course from the following probability and statistics list: IEMS 202, IEMS 303, MATH 310-1, MATH 310-2, MATH 310-3, EECS 302
- One other course chosen either from the probability and statistics list or IEMS 310 or IEMS 313
Concentration Area (4 courses)
- 300-level or higher leading to an approved concentration.
Technical Electives (2 courses)
- 300-level or higher in engineering, science, or mathematics
