Abhishek Patil is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Robotics (MSR) degree at Northwestern University. He plans to build a career in robotics that involves creative thinking and provides solutions for enabling a simple and enjoyable life using innovative techniques.

A Mechanical Engineer from National University of Singapore (NUS), he has a strong interest in robotics and complex machines. In school, he found himself attracted to challenging subjects such as physics and math that required in-depth analysis and logical thinking. During junior college, he was elected as Vice President of the Robotics Club; this role gave him the opportunity to lead teams in four national-level robotics competitions. They won three champion trophies and one second runner’s up trophy. This exposure not only fueled his interest in robotics, but also equipped him with leadership skills.

Through the MSR program, Abhishek hopes to further strengthen his skills in electrical and software engineering.

Professional Experience:

  1. Camera Module Engineer, DynaOptics Pte Ltd.

Prior to joining the MSR program, Abhishek was part of a 10-member team developing unique optical zoom lens technology for mobile phones at DynaOptics Pte Ltd. Singapore. He had the opportunity to work closely with the CEO and CTO, interact with suppliers and potential customers, and also give career talks to university students. Working with a small, dedicated team exposed Abhishek to a variety of topics related to the development of a product such as analyzing market needs, product definition/design, manufacturing, commercialization, and supply chain management.
  2. Innoventure Competition (Technopreneurship Incubation Program)

Abhishek led a team of 3 that proposed a solution and business plan to develop a prototype for a real-life problem faced by Jurong Town Corporation (JTC). They secured top position out of six participating teams. Strong interest was shown by several companies to take this project to the commercialization stage.
  3. Mechanical Systems Design Project — Industry sponsored project by Bombardier (Canada) with joint collaboration with University of Toronto and Peking University (Beijing)

Abhishek led a team of 3 students that designed a repair process for aircraft interior composite parts which involved — (a) 3-D design of composite panels using 3DS Solidworks and Abaqus software and (b) Finite Element Analysis (FEA) simulation using Abaqus software to determine the optimal parameters (such as materials, patching techniques, etc.) for the repair process.
