Hundreds of Students Meet Recruiters at Tech Expo Career Fair

Mechanical engineering major Carolyn Jones attends McCormick's Tech Expo career fair on January 18.

Nearly 500 job- and internship-seekers attended the 2012 McCormick Tech Expo, a winter career fair that brings Northwestern University students face-to-face with recruiters from top engineering, science, and technology companies.

Forty-five companies were represented at the Expo, which was held Wednesday evening at Norris University Center on the Evanston campus. That marks an increase from last year, says Helen Oloroso, assistant dean and director of the McCormick Office of Career Development.

“Fall and winter are the most critical times for job recruiting in engineering-related fields,” Oloroso says. “We’re thrilled so many students and companies took advantage of this great opportunity.”

Undergraduates, graduate students, and a handful of alums attended in search of full-time positions, internships, and Co-op opportunities at companies such as PepsiCo Inc.; General Dynamics Electric Boat division, a major submarine manufacturer; and SIM Partners, a digital marketing agency.

Fifteen companies remained on campus Thursday to conduct interviews as part of Co-op Internship Interview Day.

Tech Expo is just one of the services offered by the McCormick Office of Career Development. A variety of programs are offered throughout the year, including workshops on resumes, cover letters, interviewing, and one-on-one career development advice. An additional career fair, organized by the Society of Women Engineers, is held during the fall quarter.
