Description

A graduate course in classical and statistical thermodynamics.

The following topics in classical thermodynamics will be covered:

  1. The laws of thermodynamics; conditions for equilibrium
  2. Solutions
  3. Excess quantities
  4. Binary and ternary phase diagrams

Additionally, the following topics in statistical thermodynamics will be covered:

  1. Statistical definition of entropy
  2. Ensembles and the Boltzmann and Gibbs distributions
  3. Quantum and classical ideal gasses
  4. The regular solution model
