Computer Lab Policies

The following are the usage policies for the labs maintained by McCormick IT. Failure to comply with these rules may result in loss of lab privileges and, in some cases, possible disciplinary action.

Use of these labs implies agreement to these rules.

Use of the Labs

  • These labs are for use by McCormick personnel only.
  • Use of this lab requires a valid NetID.
  • If you are a new student and unable to login, please try changing your NetID password prior to requesting assistance.

For further assistance on obtaining access to the labs, please email McCormick IT .

Software Installation Requests

If a new software package is needed, faculty or TAs should email a request to McCormick IT. Please have all licensing, media, and documentation arranged prior to making your request.

The turnaround time for software installation is typically three to five weeks, but it may take longer.

No Food or Drink in the Labs

Certain labs have a policy forbidding food and/or drink. Violators of this policy may be asked to leave the lab immediately and could have the following sanctions leveled against them.

  • First offense violators may have their accounts suspended for three days.
  • Second offense violators may have their accounts suspended for one week.
  • Repeat violators will have their accounts permanently suspended pending appeal.

Please note that for first and second offenses, suspended accounts will be reactivated on the morning of the first business day following the conclusion of the suspension period.

Do Not Save Work to the Hard Drive

Do not attempt to save any work to the hard drive on lab computers.

  • The D: drive has been provided for temporary storage of your files while you are logged in, but is purged immediately on logout.
  • Make sure to back up any files saved to this drive.
  • You can also save files to the H: drive, this is permanent scratch space for your account.
