Hagness was cited for "contributions to computational electromagnetics and its biomedical applications"

Electrical engineering alum Susan Hagness (PhD '98, '93) has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), one of 130 members and 28 international members named to the academy's Class of 2026.

Hagness is the Philip Dunham Reed Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Maria Stuchly Professor of Electrical Engineering, and chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. At Northwestern, she was a student of the late Professor Allen Taflove, a pioneer in the finite-difference time-domain method.

Election to the NAE is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer. Academy membership honors individuals who have made outstanding contributions to engineering research, practice, or education.

Hagness was cited for "contributions to computational electromagnetics and its biomedical applications."
