With the release of this year's Northwestern Undergraduate Research Journal (NURJ), Prof. Allen Taflove celebrates his 12 year as Faculty Advisor. View the entire Journal along with extensive supplementary materials

Over the year's Prof. Taflove's involvement in the periodical has been invaluable, in fact, he initially proposed the establishment of NURJ to (then) Northwestern University President Bienen. The President's Office has funded NURJ ever since.

Annually, NURJ highlights Northwestern's top undergraduate research across a diverse range of disciplines, as judged by academic departments and programs across the University. In addition, NURJ features interviews with selected faculty and their advisees that spotlight unique research accomplishments and major external recognitions.

Funded directly by the Office of the President and produced entirely by students, NURJ is Northwestern's only publication focused entirely on undergraduate research. They provide a high-quality opportunity for the many undergraduates passionate about research to publish their work after a rigorous academic review. Implicitly, they promote the University's emphasis on interdisciplinary research that spans a wide spectrum of disciplines from neuroscience and material sciences to social sciences and humanities.

All told, NURJ endeavors to demonstrate the strength of Northwestern's undergraduate research, inspire our students to pursue research, and provide them means to report their findings in a professional manner.

The 2015-16 issue of NURJ is the largest in our history, 116 pages. This issue features Best Senior Theses selected by 15 academic departments, an unprecedented number in our journal's history, including one NU-Qatar student research article and an interview with NU-Qatar faculty and students. In addition, we are publishing interviews with faculty members Professors Mark Hersam and Vadim Backman.

A total of 420 copies of this issue of NURJ are being distributed among all schools of Northwestern to students, faculty, department heads, deans, and the Central Administration.
