EECS PhD Student Abbas Haddadi Awarded SPIE Optics & Photonics Education Scholarship

EECS PhD Student Abbas Haddadi has been awarded a 2015 Optics and Photonics Education Scholarship.

EECS PhD Student Abbas Haddadi has been awarded a 2015 Optics and Photonics Education Scholarship in the amount of $5000 by the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE) for his potential contributions to the field of photonics.

Haddadi is an EECS PhD candidate at Center for Quantum Devices (CQD) at Northwestern University under Prof. Manijeh Razeghi. He received the B.Sc degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Tehran, Tehran, Iran, in 2007. His research interests include III-V optoelectronic device modeling, design, epitaxial growth, and characterizations.

Haddadi is author and coauthor on more than 30 journal papers. He has been the recipient of the Best Paper Award of IEEE 2nd International Symposium on Systems and Control in Aeronautics and Astronautics in 2008, Best Paper Award for the Breakthroughs in Human-Centered Research from SPIE Photonic West 2015, SPIE Optics and Photonics Educational Scholarship 2015, and Walter P. Murphy Fellowship in 2011 and 2013.

In 2014 SPIE awarded $353,000 in education and travel scholarships to 144 outstanding individuals, based on their potential contribution to optics and photonics, or a related discipline. SPIE scholarships are open to full- and part-time students studying anywhere in the world.
