ELEC_ENG 395, 495: Superconducting Qubits

Description

The most industrially relevant quantum processor technology today uses superconducting junctions to store and manipulate quantum information. This course will review central elements of the theory of superconductors to explain the governing principles of superconducting devices and their tunnel junctions. These Josephson junctions will then be described in different limits as artificial two-level atoms controlled by radio frequency pulses.  Various different qubits will be described, including charge qubits, phase qubits, fluxonium, etc. and the advantages and disadvantages of each. Their physical principles of operation will be described and elementary gate operations explained. Sources of error and noise and non-idealities will also be discussed.
