Industry Day and Interview Day Provide Job and Internship Opportunities for Students

More than 60 companies will visit campus on Thursday, October 21 to recruit students for jobs and internships at the Society of Women Engineers’ Industry Day.

The annual event, Northwestern’s largest technical recruiting fair, is open to all Northwestern students and will take place at Norris Center from 5 until 9 p.m.

Employers will recruit both undergraduate and graduate students for job, internship, and co-operative engineering opportunities, according to their needs. For a complete list of employers and their interests, click here.

This year, employers are most interested in students who study computer science and engineering. The list of employers includes a range of companies like Pepsi, Microsoft, Radio Flyer, and the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District. The list also includes some newcomers, including the Nielson Company and Coca-Cola.

Booths at the fair are often staffed by Northwestern alumni, which often gives some of the 650 students who attend the fair a familiar face behind the company table, said Ellen Worsdall, assistant dean for students and diversity programs.

“It seems every year we have more and more McCormick alumni come back as recruiters for their companies,” Worsdall said. “It’s great to see former students who work so hard to graduate come back and help give opportunities to current students.”

On Oct. 22 — the day after Industry Day — the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science’s Office of Career Development will hold its semi-annual Co-op and Internship Interview Day. Twenty-four companies will set up shop in rooms around Tech and the Ford Engineering Design Center to interview students interested in co-op and internship opportunities.
“The Interview Day is another way McCormick is working to help students find opportunities that will lead them down their career paths,” said Helen Oloroso, assistant dean of the McCormick Office of Career Development.

The office is also holding workshops on how to prepare for career fairs. Students can attend the workshops to brush up on their networking skills. Upcoming workshops include:
Mon, October 11th, 2-3PM - Technological Institute (TECH), Room L251
Tues, October 12th, 5-6PM - Technological Institute (TECH), Room L221
Wed, October 13th, 5-6PM - Technological Institute (TECH), Room M164
