Prem Kumar to Present at the Quantum Economic Development Consortium

Kumar will give the talk “Future Quantum Communications”

Prem Kumar, professor of electrical and computer engineering and director of the Center for Photonic Communication and Computing, will present at the Quantum Economic Development Consortium (QED-C) meeting taking place in Gaithersburg, Maryland, from April 30 – May 1.

Prem KumarKumar will give the talk, “Future Quantum Communications,” a topic he previously presented on to national academies. Other presentations will be given by representatives of the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

QED-C was established in response to the 2018 enactment of the National Quantum Initiative Act, which created a multiagency program spanning NIST, the National Science Foundation, and the Department of Energy to support research and training in quantum information science.

Kumar’s research involves the development of advanced photonic devices and systems for communication and computing, as well as tools for generating, distributing, and ultrafast processing of quantum entanglement. He also works on the creation of networks and devices that take advantage of quantum mechanics for highly secure information and networking, and he works to increase technological speeds through optical systems and use quantum light for precision measurements, sensing, and imaging.

The Center for Photonic Communication and Computing conducts leading edge, fundamental science and engineering research for the development of advanced optical communication and computing systems.
