SES Renames Medal in Honor of Yonggang Huang

The Society of Engineering Science's (SES) Engineering Science Medal will be renamed the Yonggang Huang Engineering Science Medal. The award, named after Northwestern's Professor Yonggang Huang, celebrates his pioneering contribution to engineering science and the SES community. The prize is a medal, the Engineering Science Medal, and an award of $2000. The prize is awarded in recognition of a singularly important contribution to Engineering Science. The Board of Directors may invite the recipient to deliver the Engineering Science Lecture at the annual meeting of the Society. The recipient need not be a member of the Society but becomes a lifetime member upon receipt of the medal.

Yonggang Huang is the Achenbach Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Materials Science and Engineering at Northwestern University. He is interested in the mechanics of stretchable and flexible electronics, and deterministic 3D assembly. He has published 2 books and more than 700 journal papers, including 14 in Science and 7 in Nature. He is a Highly Cited Researcher in Engineering (2009), in Materials Science (since 2014), and in Physics (2018).  He is a member of the US National Academy of Engineering, the US National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and a foreign of the Royal Society (London).  His recognitions for undergraduate teaching and advising since 2016 include the Cole-Higgins Award for Excellence in Teaching, McCormick School of Engineering, Northwestern University in 2016; and Associated Student Government Faculty and Administrator Honor Roll, Northwestern University, in 2018 and 2020.
