ES_APPM 314-1 or equivalent, or permission of instructor

Description

The course is devoted to analytical methods for partial differential equations of mathematical physics. Review of
separation of variables. Laplace Equation: potential theory, eigenfunction expansions, conformal methods, Fourier
transforms. Heat Equation: eigenfunction expansions, integral transforms, Green’s function methods. Wave Equation:
D’Alembert’s method, Green’s functions, Spherical means, Method of descent, Duhamel’s principle.
No textbook required; lecture notes provided.
