MBIOTECH 420: Critical Thinking and Communication (1 Unit)

Description

This course develops students’ ability to evaluate possibilities, identify patterns, and look at the same data in new ways (i.e., critical thinking), as these skills create a formidable advantage in academic, personal, and professional spheres. This course will consist of two segments, connected by writing exercises. In the first segment, students will learn the theory of argumentation and will construct argument maps using the Rationale! software. In the second segment, students will focus on scientific data analysis and evaluation of papers published in the literature. Coaching on writing arguments developed using critical thinking tools and translation of argument maps into writing will be included.
