In May 2023, Tianyu (Henry) Wu graduated magna cum laude from Duke Kunshan University (DKU) and earned a dual degree from Duke University in Applied Mathematics and Computational Sciences. Throughout his four-year undergraduate journey, he progressively discovered that his interest lies in figuring out how exactly analytics should be conducted to unlock the intrinsic value of data, and this later became the compelling driving force behind his unwavering decision to join MLDS. DKU's interdisciplinary curriculum has significantly fortified Tianyu's expertise in mathematics, statistics, and computer science, while also consolidating his hands-on experience in data analysis, data mining, modeling, and optimization. Proficient in Python, SQL, R, and Julia, he has adeptly applied neural networks, time-series analysis, and natural language processing (NLP) techniques to solve complex problems across various project scenarios, encompassing user growth, sentiment analysis, public health, as evident from his internship and undergraduate research experiences. Furthermore, his exceptional academic performance was complemented by notable achievements in the cutting-edge field of blockchain technology, fueled by his passion for frontier innovations. During his junior year, he explored the convergence of traditional finance, crypto, and Artificial Intelligence, leading to the establishment of a versatile pipeline for evaluating algorithmic trading strategies across stock and crypto assets, which was officially presented at the IEEE Blockchain Annual Conference. Passionate about developing into a data scientist of the future, Tianyu is delighted to embark on the MLDS program with his unique life stories. Here, he is resolute in his commitment to continuously enhance his technical competency, driven by the belief that this program will be the catalyst for unlocking a bright and promising future filled with endless possibilities. Embracing the program's interdisciplinary approach, Tianyu is eager to explore the synergy between data science and various fields, shaping a versatile skillset that will equip him to tackle complex challenges across diverse industries. Confident in the transformative power of data-driven insights, he envisions a fulfilling career path where he can make a meaningful impact through innovative solutions and drive positive change in the world.
