Yilin (Elaine) Shan graduated from New York University with a joint degree in Computer and Data Science and a minor in Economics. Her academic journey was characterized by a strong foundation in mathematics, data science, and computer science, as well as a solid understanding of business principles. During her undergraduate years, Yilin mastered various programming languages, including C, C++, Java, JavaScript, HTML, Python, and Scala.She also demonstrated proficiency in advanced mathematical concepts, as well as machine learning and deep learning algorithms, enabling her to handle and draw meaningful inferences from data of various types and sizes. Beyond her coursework, Yilin undertook significant projects throughout her college education, including the Spotify Music Data Classification project, the TSS-EA Text Simplification project, and the Image Transfer Networks project. These experiences showcased her ability to apply mathematical and programming skills to real-world challenges. Yilin's internships further enriched her practical skill set and deepened her understanding of data analysis. During her tenure at Tanboer Co Ltd, a leading down coat company in China, she meticulously analyzed sales data, leveraging SQL and data visualization tools such as Tableau to uncover valuable insights into consumer behavior. Yilin also designed and conducted surveys to gain deeper insights into consumer habits, utilizing Python's Pandas and Matplotlib to analyze survey data and drive evidence-based decision-making. Her contributions played a pivotal role in optimizing the company's sales strategy, resulting in substantial improvements in sales figures. In subsequent internships at Glue Up, an all-in-one CRM platform, Yilin focused on analyzing customer data, visualizing customer trends, and crafting actionable reports. Her expertise contributed to identifying key metrics for monitoring customer retention and effective collaboration with other departments to enhance the overall customer experience. Yilin's experiences in the internship realm have solidified her capacity to leverage data for sound decision-making and a nuanced understanding of customer behavior and preferences. With her career aspirations set on becoming a successful data analyst, Yilin believes that pursuing a master's degree in Machine Learning and Data Science (MLDS) at Northwestern University will equip her with the expertise needed to leverage data-driven approaches and drive innovative solutions in the field of data analytics.
