Hanxi (Elsie) Lin graduated Magna Cum Laude from Baylor University in May 2023, majoring in Statistics. During her undergraduate studies, she became a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society and was invited to the Academic Honors Convocation. She acquired multiple analytical methods and analytical tools such as R, Python, and SQL. She also practiced her problem-solving skills comprehensively through various projects to explore applications in a wide array of topics for different purposes. Aside from academic achievements, she gained hands-on practice and a realistic understanding of the problems and opportunities of data analytics through two internships. She interned at Beijing BeiXiSheng Trading Ltd. in 2021 as a data analyst to acquire data across diverse sources to build a database for further analyses to establish KPIs. She also collaborated with her teammates to analyze data and create sales reports, then visualize the result in graphs and charts via Python and other tools to better lead future business decisions. In 2022, she joined Accenture and majorly partook in four projects where she utilized different analytical tools and models to collect and analyze data, summarized and refined the direction of business improvement through analyses and comparisons with previous models, and optimized the data system framework and analysis strategy. Additionally, she formed her team for the Simio Competition 2022 and collaborated with her teammates on a new matchday operations strategy to improve the profitability of exhibition matches. They did exhaustive research and data analysis by considering many factors, including fan management, staffing, and weather conditions. This real-world project again revealed to her the power of data analytics in how they can predict the future and thus lead prospective decision-making processes. In November 2022, she also competed in the AXS National Collegiate Sports Analytics Championship where she extensively practiced her statistical skills using Python, R, Deep Learning for multi-model systems, and transformers in natural language processing to analyze and visualize the data of NBA players for guiding more appropriate team strategies, ending up being Top 11 students in the nation. Every project and professional experience has been elevating her joy in conducting analytics and giving her a sense of accomplishment. Therefore, she wants to adhere to this path and keep achieving more while exploring more possibilities of applications in various fields. She expects this program to help arm her with the most up-to-date technical skills to prepare her for a career as a competent data analyst.
