Sydney graduated from New York University in 2023 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics from the College of Arts and Science. During her undergraduate studies at NYU, Sydney's academic journey led her to discover a profound calling—the application of data analytics theory and tools to facilitate data-driven decision-making and the resolution of tangible real-world challenges. Her intellectual growth was nurtured through a rigorous curriculum that encompassed courses in probability, statistics, regression analysis, and data analysis. Her trajectory was further defined by her immersion in capstone projects and research endeavors, which equipped her with proficiency in a diverse array of analytical tools, including Python, R, Java, SQL, and Julia. In the summer of 2022, she embarked on her inaugural research project, dedicated to predictive analysis of cryptocurrency. Her subsequent research undertaking, conducted within the professor of NYU, delved into whether and how changes in crime rates can be influenced by seasonality and what implications this holds for understanding accountability in local elections. By collecting and analyzing large-scale crime data in U.S. cities, she aimed to examine crime seasonality and predict crime trends. These scholarly pursuits broadened Sydney's horizons, affording her insights into the multidisciplinary applications of data science. Beyond her research pursuits, she contributed her expertise as a data analyst within the Actuarial Department's Experience Analysis Group at The Tai Ping Insurance Company Ltd. Here, she played an instrumental role in developing a regionalized review process for new policyholders. She was enthused that her professional experience resulted in a meaningful real-world contribution and felt empowered by data analytics. Sydney's ambitions extend to the acquisition of advanced proficiencies in optimization, data mining, scientific computing, predictive modeling, machine learning, and the expansive realm of big data analytics through her forthcoming graduate studies. As she prepares to embark on her academic journey as an incoming MS in MLDS student at Northwestern University, she holds firm in her conviction that she shall evolve into an adept data scientist with the knowledge and tools to assist organizations across various industries in identifying new revenue opportunities, crafting more effective marketing campaigns, and making sound business strategies and decisions.
