I graduated from the University of California San Diego in 2023 with a Bachelor of Science degree in both Data Science and Management Science. During my undergrad, I developed a strong foundation in mathematical, statistical, and computational fundamentals, focusing on data analysis, data visualization, and strategic planning. I also gained plenty of experience in advanced topics like Machine Learning and Recommendation Systems. I actively participated in research activities, course projects, and capstone programs, which exposed me to multiple programming languages, applications, cutting-edge technologies, and frameworks. In my senior year, I collaborated with Deloitte experts to address ethical concerns regarding fairness in AI/ML development. I learned various ways to decipher and ameliorate various biases that might exist during the model-building process. Moreover, I profoundly expanded my expertise using AI Fairness 360, an open-source Python toolkit, to fix models that discriminate subjects based on traits like race, gender, and age group. Aspiring to become a professional data scientist, I always aimed to apply my knowledge and practice my skillsets. Therefore, I am highly motivated to accumulate as much work experience as possible. At KaiYue, I conducted statistical analysis and delivered numerous cost-effective recommendations. At Oil Seal Trade, I fully utilized Python for data analysis, forecasting, and visualization on large financial datasets. As a Business Analyst at Johnson Controls, I immersed myself in the exploration of front-end development technologies and applications such as Power BI while collaborating with various teams. And as a Data Science Intern at Freedom Financial Network, I helped develop a new recommendation system using contextual bandits and gained extensive experience by creating algorithms from scratch. Contextual bandit is genuinely a novel, inspiring concept in the realm of reinforcement learning, which I intend to research more on its pragmatic implementation in the future. I'm thrilled to join Northwestern University's MSiA program, where I can further advance my understanding of real-world data science through the lens of distinguished faculties and hands-on projects in practicum, summer internship, and capstone courses. I am confident that my time at Northwestern would significantly enhance my planning, communication, management, and strategic thinking skills. And I treasure such opportunities to strengthen my professional background, network, and skillsets. I look forward to continuing my exploration at the forefront of this domain with fellow students, faculty members, and industrial partners, especially in areas like contextual bandits, NLP, and AI/ML algorithms. Ultimately, I want to be able to leverage data analytics to help organizations make more informed decisions, improve operational efficiency, and drive sustainable growth.
