Jiayu Hu graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles with a major in Statistics and Data Science (March 2023). Her undergraduate studies, research experiences, and internships have bestowed the proficiency to analyze, optimize, and manage vast datasets. The profound insights behind data have ignited her fervent curiosity, inspiring her to explore deeper in machine learning and data science. During her time in the State Key Laboratory, Jiayu participated in human-computer interaction research and assisted researchers in proposing a multi-source information-shared domain adaptation framework for cross-subject EEG emotion recognition and co-authoring a paper published on PRCV. The framework leveraged machine learning, deep learning, and neural networks, outperformed competing methods with mean accuracies of 88.1%. Furthermore, Jiayu was a research assistant at the UCLA Economics department and Luskin School of Public Affairs, dedicated to studying the Impact of Enforcement Pullbacks on Crimes. Utilizing her expertise in statistical modeling and programming, she adeptly analyzed extensive text data, employing keyword extraction and classification to replace laborious manual procedures with efficient automated solutions. Besides, during her internship at McKinsey, Jiayu actively assisted clients to perform digital transformation and participated in developing online courses in data science, machine learning, and Industry 4.0. Simultaneously, at CAMS Research Center of Huatai Securities, she demonstrated proficiency in SQL, Python, and Tableau, skillfully handling data transformation. Leveraging quantitative models and machine learning algorithms, she accurately predicted customers' preferences for various financial products. Jiayu approaches her new journey as a MLDS student with eagerness, determined to develop a versatile skill set in technology, communication, and leadership to meet evolving market needs. She looks forward to collaborating with peers on capstone projects and establishing meaningful connections. In her spare time, Jiayu enjoys painting, visiting art museums, and playing video games.
