Nanoscience, Waves and Fun Workshop

A workshop focused on nanoscience in Civil Engineering was held jointly with the Akono, Balogun, and Cusatis labs and the Chicago Bulls College Prep. A delegation of twenty-three female high school students experimented with cutting-edge topics such as advanced nanoscale characterization methods, novel contactless mechanical probing, and durability of concrete materials. Via close coordination with the NU Office of Diversity and Inclusion, the workshop, which is the first of many to come, will contribute to promote the recruitment and retention of underrepresented groups in STEM disciplines.
