The Department Welcomes Dr. Amanda Stathopoulos

Dr. Amanda StathopoulosThe Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering welcomes a new faculty member, Dr. Amanda Stathopoulos.  Dr. Stathopoulos is currently a postdoctoral researcher in the Transportation and Mobility Laboratory, Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland.  She received her BA in Political and Economic Sciences for Cooperation and Development from the University of Roma Tre, Italy, in 2006; her MSc in Economic and Social Sciences for Cooperation and Development from Sapienza University, Rome, Italy, in 2008; and her PhD from the Department of Economics, Business, Mathematics and Statistics, Trieste University, Italy in 2012.   Dr. Stathopoulos’ research areas of interest rests on three axes related to transportation choice modeling and forecasting; design of choice experiments and use of unconventional data, developing models incorporating non-utility maximizing decision protocols or dimensions such as attitudes to improve understanding of (realistic) user behavior and modelling of group and collective behavior. Her research has entailed empirical data and model efforts, focusing on several types of stakeholders such as travelers, freight shippers and carriers, to concretely support decisions about future transportation policies, services and investments.

Dr. Stathopoulos will join our faculty on September 1, 2014 as an Assistant Professor.
