    CAE Seminar- Modeling Hazards to Critical Infrastructure: Data Sources, Uncertainty Management, and Scenario Combinations- Rao Kotamarthi

    Abstract- We discuss the evidence of increasing risk from weather hazards due to changing climate. While much of the discussion of climate risk from these hazards is focused on large regional and global scale impacts, there is an increasing need to understanding these emerging impacts and risks at the installation and local scales. How do we go about getting to the spatial scales and time scales of relevance to critical infrastructure We discuss some available methods and the approach we are developing in our group for addressing this challenge.

    Bio- Dr. Kotamarthi serves as the Science Director for the Center for Resilience and Decision Sciences and is a senior scientist at the Decision and Infrastructure Sciences Division at the Argonne National Laboratory. His research interests include Atmospheric chemistry, absorbing aerosols, regional and Urban Scale climate modeling and Wind Resource characterization. He has led a team of scientists in developing climate projections suitable for addressing climate impacts, resilience and adaptation challenges at local and regional scales and its application to utilities serving power and telecommunications industries, among others. He authored a book published recently titled “Downscaling Techniques for High-Resolution Climate Projections - From Global Change to Local Impacts”, published by Cambridge University Press, UK.
