Advisory Council of Mechanical Engineering Students

Advisory Council of Mechanical Engineering Students (ACME) serves as a connection between the ME department and ME students so that feedback, recommendations and concerns can be voiced to the department in a constructive way. We also organize social and networking events to strengthen the ME community and give out student designed shirts, stickers, and other merchandise to promote ME pride and strengthen department unity.

Northwestern American Society of Mechanical Engineers

ASME allows students to interact with practicing mechanical engineering professionals, providing the opportunity to network, develop skills, and learn together. At Northwestern, students also learn from faculty, creating a community around mechanical engineering that enables skill sharing and mentoring within the field as well as cross-collaboration with other student groups. Additionally, ASME serves to inform students of career opportunities directly related to the field of mechanical engineering and connect students, professors, and professionals in order to relate classroom knowledge to industry applications.

Engineers for a Sustainable World

Engineers for a Sustainable World (ESW) mobilizes engineers through education, training, and practical action. It builds collaborative partnerships to meet the needs of current and future generations.

Society of Women Engineers

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is a nationally recognized professional, educational, non-profit, and service organization dedicated to encouraging women to pursue the fields of science and engineering.

Design Competition

During the Design Competition, an annual tradition at Northwestern, undergraduate teams of all years compete for speed and points with autonomous robots of their own design.

NU Solar Car Team

NU Solar Car Team is an undergraduate student organization dedicated to designing and engineering solar-powered cars built to compete in international events.

NUSTARS (Northwestern University Space Technology and Rocketry Society)

NUSTARS is a student-led group dedicated to furthering student engagement in aerospace & space related design projects and competitions. The fifty plus member group is composed of both McCormick and non-McCormick students broken into four separate student-led teams. Our mission is to participate in university-level NASA programming, and to advocate for research related to space exploration. NUSTARS fulfills this mission through interdisciplinary engagement of students, researchers, educators, and neighboring community members."

EPIC

EPIC is an entrepreneurial interest group, composed of graduate and undergraduate students from across the University and its professional schools. EPIC has helped create a highly innovative course, the Life Sciences Innovation Program. This two-quarter medical technology development program allows graduate students from engineering, arts and sciences, business, and medical schools to partner with each other and develop a prototype, a business plan and patent application, starting from a clinical need.

Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE)

Northwestern has two teams that compete in SAE Collegiate Design Competitions: the Baja team, which competes in off road-racing events, and the Formula team, which races a Formula-style road race car. Both teams design, build, test, and drive a custom-built open-wheeled vehicle and compete against other teams in design and driving events.

Design for America

Design for America (DFA) is an award-winning, nationwide network of interdisciplinary student teams and community members using design to create local and social impact. See the introductory video on the DFA website.
