People / Students / Class of 2027

Langjia Zhang graduated from the University of Michigan in Spring 2026 with a double major in Data Science and Economics. During his undergraduate studies, he built a strong foundation in machine learning, statistics, and data analysis through coursework and projects involving Bayesian modeling, natural language processing, and predictive analytics. He developed experience with Python, R, SQL, Power BI, and modern machine learning frameworks while exploring how data driven methods can be applied to real world problems.
At A. O. Smith, Langjia automated the extraction and consolidation of business intelligence metadata using Python and helped develop Tableau dashboards to support the company's migration to Power BI. Later, as a Revenue Engineering Intern at American Airlines, he built data pipelines that integrated flight operations and scheduling data, created interactive Power BI dashboards to analyze operational trends, and automated data refresh processes to improve reporting reliability. Outside of his internships, he completed projects including a Bayesian model for power outage duration prediction, a voice-controlled oscilloscope assistant powered by retrieval-augmented generation and large language models, and several machine learning applications.
Langjia joined Northwestern University's Machine Learning and Data Science program to deepen his understanding of machine learning and statistical modeling while gaining experience through collaborative projects. He is particularly interested in Bayesian methods, natural language processing, and building reliable machine learning systems, and hopes to pursue a career developing data driven solutions for complex real world challenges.
