Xing Sun graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with a double major in Economics and Statistics, achieving a perfect 4.00/4.00 GPA. In recognition of his academic excellence, he was named to the Dean's List every semester and received Bronze Tablet honors upon graduation. His undergraduate education provided him with a strong foundation in statistical analysis, econometrics, and quantitative reasoning, while fostering his interest in applying data science to complex problems in finance and business.
During his undergraduate studies, Xing gained practical experience through both academic research and industry internships. As a research analyst at Econ Data Lab, he investigated factors influencing public program funding decisions, incorporating information from over 1,000 policy documents into machine learning models. During his internship at Neurova, he developed data processing workflows and an interactive dashboard for analyzing ETF performance, market volatility, and financial risk indicators such as the VIX. These experiences strengthened his ability to connect technical analysis with real-world problems and communicate data-driven insights to support informed decision-making.
Now pursuing his Master's degree in Machine Learning and Data Science at Northwestern University, Xing hopes to further deepen his expertise in machine learning, statistical modeling, and business analytics. He is particularly interested in applying data-driven approaches to problems in finance and business, with the long-term goal of becoming a data scientist who combines technical rigor with an understanding of real-world decision-making.
Outside of academics, Xing is an enthusiastic tea lover who enjoys exploring different tea varieties and brewing traditions. His apartment is home to an extensive collection of teaware, reflecting his appreciation for the culture and craftsmanship behind tea. He is also a passionate traveler who has visited more than 20 countries, enjoying opportunities to experience different cultures, discover local cuisines, and gain new perspectives on the world.
