Yue (Lex) Li received his Bachelor of Science in Financial Mathematics from The Ohio State University, where he developed a strong foundation in mathematics, statistics, programming, and financial modeling. His academic interests include quantitative finance, machine learning, stochastic processes, and data-driven decision-making. Through coursework in probability theory, stochastic calculus, financial derivatives, linear algebra, differential equations, and programming, he gained experience using Python, MATLAB, Java, and Excel to analyze complex financial and statistical problems.

Prior to joining Northwestern’s MLDS program, Yue gained experience across capital markets, venture analytics, and data-driven research. At HP Tech Ventures, he conducted an AI-sector landscape study covering companies in generative AI, MLOps, and edge computing, and built a keyword-driven sourcing workflow in Excel and Python to evaluate early-stage startups. He also interned in equity and debt capital markets at Bank of China International Securities, Guotai Haitong Securities, and CICC, where he supported market research, issuer analysis, deal documentation, and financial due diligence.

Through the MLDS program, Yue hopes to deepen his technical expertise in machine learning, statistical modeling, and data science while applying these tools to financial markets, risk analysis, and business decision-making. He is particularly interested in bridging quantitative finance with modern machine learning methods and developing practical, data-driven solutions to complex real-world problems. Outside of academics, Yue enjoys weight training, badminton, traveling, and learning about sports nutrition.
