Haowen Chen is pursuing the Master of Science in Machine Learning and Data Science at Northwestern University. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with double majors in Mathematics and Economics, where he developed a strong foundation in linear algebra, multivariable calculus, statistics, and probabilistic reasoning.

Before joining MLDS, Haowen built cross-industry experience in data science, strategy, and financial analytics. As a co-founder of EYE in Finance, an AI investment platform, he worked on corporate fraud detection and financial health evaluation models using structured financial data and unstructured information such as filings and news. At Chagee, he worked in the Strategy Department of a rapidly growing consumer brand, focusing on metric reasoning, data quality, and the practical challenges of applying models to operational decision-making. His earlier experience with Robam and Fenghe Information Technology further shaped his interest in building models that business and finance teams can understand, trust, and use.

Through the MLDS program, Haowen hopes to strengthen his technical foundation in machine learning, statistical inference, and real-world model deployment. He is especially interested in generalization under changing business conditions, risk-score calibration, and the design of data products that help non-expert users make high-stakes decisions clearly and confidently.
