Xinyue (Fay) Yan graduated from Emory University with a B.S. in Applied Mathematics and Statistics and a minor in Computer Science. During her undergraduate studies, she earned solid knowledge in numerical analysis, linear optimization, and causal inference and developed strong programming skills in R and Python regarding data processing, visualization, and implementing algorithms for data science applications. In the Translational Lab for Cardiothoracic Imaging and Artificial Intelligence, she researched coronary artery calcium phenotypes and developed predictive models for major adverse cardiac events and heart failure, using XGBoost and integrating clinical and imaging data. Her work improved risk prediction and applied fairness and interpretability frameworks.

Beyond healthcare applications, Xinyue explored the intersection of AI and ethics in an image generative AI corruption project, where she constructed a poisoned dataset to examine corruptions in generative AI and developed a prototype web application for evaluating artist influence on model outputs. She has also gained experience in data analysis for business accreditation research, energy market modeling, and biomedical signal processing. Xinyue is passionate about applying machine learning to healthcare and public health, with a focus on equitable and responsible use of data science.
