Seonghoo (Paul) Kim graduated from Boston University in 2023 with a double major in Computer Science and Statistics. Throughout Paul's academic and professional career, Machine Learning and Data Science have always been involved. As a student at Boston University, Paul combined his interests in the fields of Machine Learning and Data Science with his love for teaching to serve as a Teaching Assistant in Geometric Algorithms, an introductory linear algebra course, as well as Database Systems, a course that explores data retrieval through various database designs.
Paul utilized all his academic skills in Machine Learning and Data Science across a wide variety of industries. Starting his professional career as an APAC Corporate Development Analyst at CME Group, Paul started utilizing various Python Data Science tools to refine and analyze data of futures and options contracts that CME had offered to find trends and strategies to benefit the company. Paul had also worked as a Scientific Computing Intern at Vertex Pharmaceuticals, incorporating Machine Learning to profile photos of cells to test the effectiveness of drugs. Moving back to financial data, Paul worked as a Business Intelligence Analyst Intern at Klaviyo, learning how to optimize SQL queries to extract data to provide analysis for the marketing team on where to focus their online marketing campaigns. Graduating from Boston University, Paul has been working as a Quality Development Engineer at InterSystems, a data solutions company, in the HealthShare department. As a Quality Development Engineer, Paul has focused on precision in his code and work to ensure that no faults slip onto the customers, especially as it deals with healthcare data.
As a student in the MLDS program at Northwestern University, Paul aims to enhance his skills in the field of Machine Learning and Data Science to make a greater impact on society. With the emphasis on collaboration at the MLDS program through its courses as well as the Practicum and Capstone projects, Paul hopes to utilize his academic knowledge and strengthen his soft skills to tackle real-world problems. With all the resources that the MLDS program and Northwestern offer, Paul hopes to be ready for the ever-more dynamic world of analytics to make data-driven decisions.
