Passing of Emeritus Faculty, William Stevens

We are saddened to announce the passing of our friend and colleague William F. Stevens on December 5, 2015. Bill was born in Detroit, Michigan, graduated from Harvard (Illinois) High School in 1940, received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Northwestern University in 1944, and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from University of Wisconsin in 1949. Following a couple of years in the navy and a couple of years in industry at B. F. Goodrich, he joined our department in 1951. While on our faculty at Northwestern until he began his retirement in 1987 he was Chair of the Chemical Engineering Department and Dean of the Graduate School, designed a new Freshman Engineering Curriculum, consulted with a number of oil and chemical companies, and taught many undergraduate and graduate students.
