Ready to Grow in MSIT

Three new students shared what appealed to them about the MSIT program and how they think it will help them accomplish their professional goals.

A new class of students began their studies in Northwestern Engineering's Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) program this quarter. Before they get too far into their academic experience, we wanted to hear what it was about the program that initially interested them and how they hope their time in MSIT will help propel them professionally.

Learn about each new student who shared their responses below:

Mia Fan started at MSIT after working as a fixed income research analyst at Huatai Securities Company in China. Prior to that, she was an audit associate for Deloitte. Fan has her bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Florida.

Bryan Knight currently is director of information technology (IT) at Incepter Bio. He previously spent more than three years working in IT for Novartis Gene Therapies, most recently as associate director of IT. Knight has a bachelor's degree in management information systems and business from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Shivangi Sharma spent more than three years working as a data scientist in India before starting in MSIT. Sharma worked at AVL, a mobility technology company focused on development, simulation, and testing within the automotive industry. She received her bachelor of technology degree from ABES Engineering College.

What was it about MSIT that initially appealed to you?

SS: MSIT offers an elective curriculum that allows us to choose our own individual paths and interests.

BK: I liked the flexibility of the program and the direct impact on current roles in the technology field.

MF: I was excited about the networking opportunities with alumni and other students.

What are you most looking forward to about your MSIT experience?

SS: I'm looking forward to being exposed to a diverse set of classes and subjects, as well as interacting with student groups and learning from my classmates' experiences.

BK: I'm excited to develop an extremely talented network with my classmates, who are from all different backgrounds, to learn from each other, and to help each other grow.

What do you hope to do professionally after MSIT?

BK: I want to see my MSIT experience and the skills I learn have an immediate impact on my current role and help me ultimately transition into a chief information officer or chief technology officer role. MSIT will help me grow as a leader and develop time management skills, while also providing me with a strong network for future opportunities.
