Industry Night 2022

MEM hosted its 8th Annual Industry Night on Thursday, March 17, 2022, at the James L. Allen Center on Northwestern's Evanston Campus.  MEM students, alumni, faculty, and industry guests heard from keynote speaker Hani Mahmassani, Director of Northwestern University Transportation Center as well as from Val Marchevsky ('08 MEM), Director of Logistics Technology at Uber Freight and Sagar Shah, Director of Carrier Operations with Uber Freight.

Hani Mahmassani

Keynote: Navigating the Supply Chain Chaos

Hani MahmassaniProfessor Hani S. Mahmassani is a Professor of Civil and Environmental and (by courtesy) Industrial Engineering and Management Sciences Engineering as well as the William A. Patterson Distinguished Chair in Transportation at the Northwestern University Transportation Center (NUTC).

Professor Mahmassani specializes in multimodal transportation systems analysis, planning and operations, dynamic network modeling and optimization, transit network planning and design, dynamics of user behavior and telematics, telecommunication-transportation interactions, large-scale human infrastructure systems, and real-time operation of logistics and distribution systems.

Val Marchevsky '08 MEM

Val Marchevsky

Val Marchevsky is the Head of Logistics Technology with Uber Freight. He received his undergraduate degree from Illinois Institute of Technology before completing his Master of Engineering Management degree at Northwestern University. As the Head of Logistics Technology, he oversees a team of engineers at Uber Freight's Technology Innovation Center in Chicago.

Marchevsky has extensive leadership experience leading engineering teams on mobile, wearable and network devices and industry-shaping technology projects.

Sagar Shah

Sagar Shah

Sagar Shah is the Director of Carrier Operations with Uber Freight and oversees several operational teams based in Chicago. His experience at Uber has spanned over 7.5 years, where he previously served as a General Manager on the Mobility business, launching and managing rideshare operations across multiple states in the Midwest. During his time at Uber, Sagar has built experience across operational growth initiatives, organizational design, product solutions, and policy and regulatory matters. Prior to joining Uber, he worked on efforts to help build and advise early stage startups. He began his career in principal investing and finance, where he developed strategic plans and advised corporate clients across industries.

Sagar holds a BA in Mathematics and Economics from Cornell University and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
