Navigant Consulting Business Strategy Competition

Navigant Competition Winners

May 2015

It was an inspiring display of whole-brain thinking and doing at the Navigant Consulting Business Strategy Competition finals on Saturday May 30th. More than 30 participants from all over Northwestern participated in the competition and worked on the ideas for almost ten weeks. The total prize money for the competition was $3000.

Five multi-disciplinary teams reached the finals and were presenting at the Navigant Office in downtown Chicago. The teams had student representation from McCormick Engineering, Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern Law and Segal Institute of Design and they proudly showcased their analysis on how to commercialize a new inhalable insulin drug. The teams were asked to design the presentations assuming that they are presenting to the board of directors of a young biotech company who has the delivery mechanism patent for 15 more years.

Judges had a tough time deciding who the best team was and finally decided to split first place between two teams. Andy Hung-Yi Le (MD, Feinberg) and Sandeep Pawar (MEM, McCormick) were one of the winning teams. The other winning team was comprised of Gitanjali Murthy (MEM, McCormick), Liang Mu (MSL, Northwestern Law) and Michael Vu (MD, Feinberg). The runner-up team was comprised of Ali Hemmati (MEM, McCormick), Matt Myers (MEM, McCormick) and Susan Varghese (MPDD, Segal Design Institute).

The Accenture/Chicago Sinfonietta Competition participants were comprised of Northwestern graduate students and alumni from the McCormick School of Engineering Professional Masters Programs as well as the Bienen School of Music. The competition was designed to generate business and marketing strategies that will increase revenue for the Chicago Sinfonietta. Accenture hosted the three final presentations in their downtown Chicago office on March 13th – with the team including MEM student, Carlos Gomez, and MS Predictive Analytics student, Carlos Ardila, winning the competition. The winning students split a cash prize of $1,000 and were awarded 10 Chicago Sinfonietta concert tickets, as well as a networking dinner with Accenture Directors.

A special thanks to MEM Alum and Accenture Consultant, Jennifer Wei, for all her hard work in making this event a great success. Thank you to all the students involved and congratulations to the winning team!

MEMPC PriSim Business War Games Competition

March 2015

The MEM Program participated in the MEMPC PriSim Business War Games Competition this winter.

The MEMPC PriSim Business War Games Competition featured teams comprised of students from the seven MEMPC schools. Each group played the role of a management team put in charge of an automobile company in a business simulation. The teams began with three vehicles and had to decide how to strategically market their products so as to yield the best results. Team C, led by Alice Feix from Duke University and John Taggart from Stanford University, won the competition. Each member of the winning team was awarded a Nexus 7 WiFi Tablet.

Congratulations to Team C and thank you to all who participated in the competition.
