Frequently Asked Questions

How does co-op impact my financial aid or scholarships?

Please review the Undergraduate Financial Aid website for more information.

Can I take an academic course while on co-op/internship?

There are several steps to approve an academic course while working on a co-op/internship:

  1. A student must obtain written approval from their employer that an academic course will not interfere with their proposed work schedule.
  2. If a student is on Financial Aid, an International Student, or a Student Athlete other processes may be required. Please review the Part Time Enrollment section of the Northwestern Registrar's website for more information.
  3. Log in to CAESAR to complete the “Undergraduate Part-Time Enrollment Form.” After logging in, select the “Academic Forms” link in the “Academics” section at the top of the page. Choose “Undergraduate Part-Time Enrollment Notification.”  (Students that do not complete this form will be billed for full-time tuition until the drop/add period ends. After the drop/add period ends a student's tuition should be adjusted automatically to reflect the number of courses taken.)

If I enroll in a fifth year of study due to co-op, does my tuition increase?

Some students are eligible for the co-op remission grant, which offsets the increase in tuition for the fifth enrollment year. Contact your advisor for more information regarding your eligibility.
