Transfer Credit Evaluation

As a transfer student, your previous credits will be reviewed through the online transfer credit form, a link to which will be available in the Undergraduate Admission student portal upon your admission to Northwestern.

You are required to submit one form for each engineering, science, or math course, including the syllabus and other detailed information, by July 17 (or as soon as possible for those who confirm enrollment after July 17). Only STEM courses require course forms.

Please wait until a course is complete to submit course forms for it. Credits will be reviewed during the summer, and your transcript will be updated as credits are finalized. A thorough review of each course form takes time. Submitting course forms as early as possible will help ensure their review is completed in time for fall course registration in late summer.

A preliminary evaluation of your transfer credits is available in your student portal. If you have questions about this initial evaluation, please email nu-transfer-credit@northwestern.edu.

Placement Exams and Assessments

If you are considering taking courses in math or chemistry at Northwestern, you should complete the corresponding placement exam in Canvas. You will receive an invite to join the Canvas page via your Northwestern email. If you are unsure whether you will need to take a course in either of these areas, it is safest to complete the placement exam.

If you need to take additional calculus courses at Northwestern to fulfill your McCormick math requirements, complete the Department of Mathematics Placement Exam, due July 31. You can find details on course requirements for your degree program in the McCormick section of the current Undergraduate Catalog.

Fall Quarter Course Registration

You will enroll in fall courses over the summer prior to arriving for Wildcat Welcome. More details on specific registration dates will be communicated in the summer. Please be sure to follow the process outlined in the “Transfer Credit Evaluations” section above, as those course reviews for previous math, science, and engineering credits will factor significantly into your fall course selections.
