Description

Introduction to ceramic, metal, and polymer-matrix composites primarily for structural applications. Reinforcements such as particles (including nano particles), whiskers and fibers, their processing and properties are examined. Fabrication of whisker and fiber composites in the solid state and by reaction-based methods is treated. The role of the reinforcement-matrix interface is emphasized, particularly as it relates to ambient and elevated temperature mechanical properties.
