Program Faculty and Staff
Bill has been at Northwestern since 1987; he served as ChBE department chair and currently directs the Master of Biotechnology Program. He received a Presidential Young Investigator Award from NSF, chaired the AIChE Food, Pharmaceutical and Bioengineering Division, served on the Scientific Advisory Boards of the Australian Stem Cell Centre and the Stem Cell Network of Canada, and was a member of the National Research Council Task Group to evaluate NASA's Biotechnology Facility for the International Space Station.
Bill has authored more than 110 peer-reviewed publications and supervised 36 PhD & 19 MBP students. He is Editor of the Biochemical Engineering Journal and serves on the editorial boards for Biotechnology Progress, Biotechnology & Bioengineering, and the Biotechnology Journal.

Igor, Associate Director and Director of Admissions, has been with the MBP since its inception in 2003. His main responsibilities include teaching; student recruitment, admission and advising; and marketing. Igor’s earliest scientific education came from his family’s magazine subscriptions to Science and Life, an established Russian periodical, reading from an array of topics in science and technology.

Arthur is responsible for teaching, advising, coordinating MBP research training, and managing the MBP teaching laboratory. He values students who go above the bar, and demonstrate a willingness to try something new. “I try to show students that engineering is about people, and that our work is about improving people’s lives.” Arthur is an active member of the American Chemical Society and the American Society for Engineering Education, broadening his sphere of influence in the field while hunting for new opportunities for creativity and research.
Zoe HoeppnerAssistant Director of External Relations

Zoe's curricular engagements include hands-on laboratories in cellular and molecular biology, biotechnology commercialization and new product development courses, topics in professional development, and critical thinking in experimental biotechnology. She is responsible for building relationships with national and international biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies for the purpose of educational partnerships, such as course lectures, internships, and student mentorship.
Sandy OrozcoProgram Assistant

Administers student services, including (but not limited to) admissions, registration, and advising. Manages all finances for program, prepares annual budget, handles purchasing and payments. Coordinates with administrative offices on behalf of faculty and staff.
Erin RileyResearch Technologist III
Manages the MBP lab, responsible for ordering, inventory, and maintenance of equipment.
Victoria HarleyCommunications Coordinator
Responsible for external communications: advertising, annual reports, social media. Develops written and visual content for recruitment and marketing efforts.
