In addition to tuition, students should expect a quarterly $298 health services fee and $125 student activity fee.
Full-time students who choose to complete the degree in a fourth quarter should expect a roughly 5% increase over the previous academic year, though these students generally take one or two courses and will not need to pay for "full" enrollment.
Health Insurance
Health insurance is a requirement for all degree-seeking students at Northwestern University, which will cost each student an additional $5,996 for coverage from September 1, 2026 - August 31, 2027. Students can fulfill the insurance requirement by:
- confirming your NU-SHIP enrollment, or
- waiving enrollment by affirming alternate insurance that meets NU’s comparable coverage requirements. Visit the student health insurance site to evaluate if your insurance meets these requirements.
The Northwestern Student Health Insurance Office is available to assist students in making appropriate insurance selections for their health care needs. Please contact them directly with health insurance questions.
Cost of Living
While non-tuition costs will vary from student to student, you can use this resource to plan for housing costs, food costs, and so on. Books are covered via MSIT tuition.
Additional Funding Resources
Master of Science in Information Technology students may wish to learn about funding options through the McCormick School of Engineering Fellowships and Financial Aid, Northwestern University's Office of Fellowships, and via Northwestern Student Finance. External scholarship options include applying for competitive scholarships through ISC2. The MSIT program does not offer stipends or teaching assistantships.
Students using financial aid to fund their graduate degree must comply with the Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Policy to maintain eligibility.
