IEMS 225: Principles of Entrepreneurship

Prerequisites

Students cannot take IEMS 325-0 prior to taking this course.

Description

Introduction to essential elements of building one’s own business, from brainstorming ideas and assessing opportunities to pitching a business idea.  History of entrepreneurship and the entrepreneurial psyche.  Busiiness plan fundamentals, including strategy, finance, accounting, marketing, operations, and choosing the ideal management team.

  • This course is a general technical elective for Industrial Engineering.
  • Students may not receive credit for both IEMS 225 and ENTREP 225

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Gain a complete understanding of all the building blocks of business
  • Learn frameworks to develop and assess business ideas/opportunities
  • Understand requirements for a success long-term business model
  • Learn team dynamics, management, focus and discipline necessary to develop and pitch a business idea
  • Obtain the innate ability to discover and assess ideas that can serve as the foundation of a successful startup
