Biography

Elisa Borowski, Ph.D., is a postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Northwestern University. Dr. Borowski’s research focuses on the quantification of the role of social factors in travel behavior and decision-making during mobility disruptions. Their work uses mixed method approaches and advances in discrete choice modeling informed by social science theories to improve social equity and resilience. Their doctoral dissertation examined social mechanisms for resource access, including sharing and the use of technology-support crowdsourcing, during emergencies and disasters.

Dr. Borowski is a recipient of the National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship and a member of the Transportation Research Board’s Committee on Community Resources and Impacts (AME80). They received their Doctor of Philosophy in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Northwestern University with an emphasis on transportation systems analysis and planning, as well as a Master of Science in Civil Engineering with a focus on structures and materials and a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology with a second major in English from the University of New Mexico.
