Dean Julio Ottino Featured in ‘Let Go and Lead’ Project

Julio Ottino, dean of the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science, was recently interviewed as part of Let Go & Lead, a video project by strategy execution and employee engagement firm Gagen MacDonald that aims to explore the ideas of leadership and transformation in the 21st Century.

Maril MacDonald, CEO of the firm, interviewed Ottino as well as other thought leaders, included author Mitch Albom (“Tuesdays with Morrie”), designer Bruce Mau, and Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz.

During the interviews, MacDonald asked leaders how they help their organization’s flourish and inspire those around them to take up an idea and deliver it.

"Julio looks for one quality above others in building a team—he wants people unlike him,” the project’s website says. “He seeks complementary (but different!) skills to expand upon his knowledge. At the heart of this practice lies a simple, but profound truth: We all have talents, even if we are not always aware of them. The challenge for today’s leaders is to create the environment where those abilities can be honed, developed and realized. We learn from Julio that the best path to innovation is not always the one that we pave."
